Poland to develop domestic flights
LOT, Poland’s national air carrier, is reported to be, so far, the biggest winner of the growing demand for domestic flights. It is the only airline to sell tickets for domestic flights although some are serviced by Eurolot. Jet Air and Bartolini Air are the other possible operators of domestic flights, the newspaper informs. LOT has filled the gap created by the fact that a lot of railways in Poland are under renovation making train rides rather bothersome. LOT is also able to offer lower prices than railways. A round trip from Warsaw to Gdańsk costs only by PLN100 more than a train ticket but is six times shorter, “Rzeczpospolita” informs.
At the moment all domestic flights in Poland are to or from Warsaw. Regional airports see the need to launch connections between other cites, omitting Warsaw, “Rzeczpospolita” reports. LOT having the dominant position on the market is not interested in opening new connections. Eurolot on the other hand is thinking about preparing an independent offer, the daily notes.
A connection between Rzeszów in the far south-east of Poland and Gdańsk in the north serviced by Jet Air operated last year. The planes were 70% full, so chances are the connection will be restored. Kraków, the capital city of Małopolskie Province in the south of Poland, is mulling the possibility of opening flights to Gdańsk, Poznań (central Poland) and Szczecin (extreme north-west). The flights would be probably operated by Eurolot. Bartolini Air, a wannabe on the domestic connection market, is an aviation training centre. The company is in talks concerning a connection from Szczecin to Rzeszów, the daily notes.
